New Leptospirosis 4 vaccine.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that affects dogs and can be fatal. It is present in the environment and spread by rats and rodents.  Dogs can pick up the infection by swimming in or drinking contaminated water.  It is highly contagious and can also affect humans (known as Weils disease).

Previous vaccines had only covered for 2 strains of Leptospirosis present in the UK but a new vaccine, Nobivac Lepto 4, has come out which covers 4 different strains of Leptospirosis present in the UK and Europe.

Vaccination not only helps prevent disease but minimises the chance of transmission to other dogs and people.

Beech House is changing it's vaccine protocol to include this new vaccine, as we feel it gives our clients and their pets the best level of protection against disease.

All adults dogs coming in for Annual Health Check and Booster in 2015 will be offered a second Lepto4 vaccine 4 weeks after the initial booster free of charge to ensure they have sufficient immunity to protect them from Leptospirosis.

New puppies coming to the practice may need a course of three injections to get them fully up to date, depending upon the age at which come in to see us.  Your vet or any member of staff should be able to discuss this with you and answer any questions you may have.

There has recently been a case of Leptospirosis in our area. Please follow the link to read the case.
